Heading to a new city for academic or career prospects is an exciting adventure. This adventure, although exhilarating, comes with many challenges that one needs to overcome to make sure the new city feels more homelike. The process of finding a PG involves hours of searching, careful diligence and ultimately finalizing one. This article acts as an overview to help you go through the important points to consider before finalizing a PG:
-Location: There are two things to look for whilst referring to this point. First is the distance of the said PG from your workplace or your college. This is highly important since commuting from a far away place on a daily basis can be challenging especially if you don't own a personal vehicle. Second is the locality of the PG. Consider how the neighborhood of the PG is, how far are facilities like supermarkets, clinics, places to eat, parks etc.
-Furnished or Unfurnished: When you visit the PG, carefully inspect it's furnishings. Check for windows, power sockets, cupboards and space to keep your suitcase. A lot of PG’s do not provide the essentials required while you settle in, that is where Relokart steps in; providing a complete kit of everyday essentials to simplify your hunt and save you time.
-Housekeeping Services: Get in touch with the caretaker to check the housekeeping timings & the frequency of cleaning. Inquire about the washroom cleaning separately, since many PG’s tend to neglect it.
-Meal Schedule: Ask the PG caretaker/owner about the number of meals they provide per day (including weekends too). Personally taste the meals while you are visiting the PG. If you’re a vegetarian, inquire if the PG serves only veg food or not. Trust us, it is really important and we don’t want you to regret your decision later on.
-Curfew Timings: This is another check you must do before finalizing a PG. If you tend to stay out late, make sure the PG allows late-night entry. Additionally, if you have a night shift that ends at 2 or 3 am, ensure you can enter the PG without any hassle.
-Guest Policy & House Rules: Understand the PG's guest policy. Ask who is allowed, the visiting hours and any other guest-related rules. Also review the rules regarding meals, smoking, alcohol, common areas, parking and kitchen use. Review and agree to these regulations before moving in, as some PG's may have restrictions on these aspects.
-Security: Everyone wants to feel safe in their home, therefore renting a secure PG is crucial. Ideally, the property should be in a secure neighborhood. Most PG's have at least one security guard, making them safer than rented flats
-Crowd: Before deciding on a PG, speak to your roommate/s and the others staying in already. Roommates become your extended family, so it's critical to spot any red signs and verify their vibe matches with yours ;)
-Documentation/Agreement: Once you've decided a PG that matches your needs, inquire about the registration procedures. Determine your advance payment, security deposit, notice time and refund policy. Determine which verification documents are required and then carefully go through the rental agreement.
Finalizing a PG can be tough, considering it's the first time for many. But keep your head open and keep these points in your mind and you’ll surely find the right one. Wishing you All the Best for your PG Hunting and your new phase.
